July 4th past

This morning was chilly by seasonal standards, especially when compared to a week ago. I remember how hot it was when I began removing overgrown climbers along the cottage garage wall. It started simply enough but one thing led to another and soon I was redoing the trim and painting an old door. I hesitated before scraping the chalky old flaking paint, so photogenic it was especially while the ivy was still growing up along the trim.

In the process, I looked down to discover this leaf with a seemingly random pattern carved by some hungry insect. It was a design that need to be documented, and then accentuated.

Eventually the leaf was trampled underfoot, while I sweated away at my all consuming task.
