What fun living in the city!

From an hour of my day yesterday ---

Check writing,
a most depressing day.
Except today was also
bill writing day.
The two nearly balanced
each other out.
The sum of their difference
almost zero.

It was a lovely day outside,
much too wonderful
to only be looked out upon.
Besides there were envelopes
for the mail box.

Eight blocks
to the post office
in fifteen minutes...

Egg salad sub from Smiley's Deli
on the corner of Duke and Lemon.
No onion, no hot peppers.
Eaten in the shade of the umbrella
over the table outside.

The picture which got away.
Pulled up to the red light,
an older red roadster,
middle-aged son driving.
Passenger
elderly mother wearing bandanna.
Black woman in red top crosses
by on the other side.
My hands holding sub.
Light changes.
Picture goes away.

Sky blue
puffy clouds
over house tops
of Lime Street.
My hands free...

Home again.
Rain arrives...
