mortal-wound-black-walnut.jpg

Mortally Wounded

Whirring sharp steel
against the decades.
Slicing asunder fibers.

Life bleeding green.
Jugalone toxin,
protection no more.

Stripped of limbs,
the lofty reach
brought down.

Black walnut,
here before I was,
forgive me.

My penance...
reveal your hidden beauty
for all to admire.

Greater in death than life.

p.s. today i was on the verge of tears as we cut down the black walnut tree beside our driveway.
