Visions of a draining experience

On the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of northern Minnesota, what kind of draining does this image represent? Of energy...a portage will be necessary. Of a lake...the tea colored water we drank to quench our thirst. Of beleaguered souls...the unfettering of our spirits.

But it was also salve for the long haul along the portage path. Knowing full well that another one lie at the next turn in the river or across the lake, the sounds and sights were a distraction from the pain of the burdens we bore step by step till reaching our destination.

And it was a welcomed diversion from the paddling...
